Macrobiotic Community Dinner

Mission Statement

Our goals are to:

·       build community by providing a forum for people to meet, share, and exchange information and ideas as equal human beings through healthy discussions.

·       cook healthy food of the best possible quality available with positive energy. Organic ingredients (such as grains, beans, and leafy greens) are our priority, and we purchase traditionally handcrafted/harvested products (like sea vegetables, miso, amazake, shoyu, and umeboshi vinegar).  We enter the kitchen with joy and happiness that we can share what we have learned with others, and to express ourselves through the meditative art of cooking.

·       nourish people in body, mind, and spirit. We believe that we care for our bodies when we eat good food, showing self-respect and self-love, which increases our quality of life.

·       stand by the environment by using local and seasonal ingredients whenever possible, thereby reducing the amount of petroleum needed to ship items here.  Buying locally and seasonally also supports the local economy.

·       provide a fair and living wage for the markets and companies we purchase from, for the farmers, and for ourselves, based on the quality of food we prepare for our customers.

Thank you for allowing us to share with you!

“Thank you Leslie, It all was very delicious, and it is always a pleasure to see you too! I am so glad that this event is happening for the Honolulu community. I want to see it grow and grow and grow. I am still thinking of the various delights that you provided last night, trying to figure out what and how you did it... Many blessings, Jill”

“Aloha Leslie, Thanks for preparing the meal. It was delicious and I never had vegan dessert before that was sooooooooo good. Mahalo, Angele”

“Hi Leslie, I'm so glad that I went to the macrobiotic dinner last night.  You and Kathy did a terrific job of preparing an excellent meal!  The food was very, very delicious.  I enjoyed everything, especially the lentil loaf, blueberry cake, and the steamed veggies with the pumpkin seed dressing. I can't believe I can get so excited over vegetables! Would you believe, the veggies and dressing were my favorite?!  I could have eaten a whole plateful of those veggies!  And I've always liked kinpira gobo and namasu, so it was great to eat a very healthy version--not too spicy or salty, as these dishes often are.

Whenever I experience macrobiotic cooking, I get inspired all over again.  Thank you for the wonderful things you and Kathy do to share your knowledge of macrobiotic cooking.  I'm already looking forward to

your next dinner!  :) Best wishes and Aloha, Ruth

PS. I didn't fill out a written evaluation, but please know that your meal was a "five star" experience!”

“I need your home address so I can come to your house every night for dinner... 6ish. :) Sorta kidding of course... yum!  You girls cook so good... and I do love a good meal. Betsy”

“Leslie, I want to let you know that my husband and I enjoyed the macrobiotic dinners you prepared last night -- especially the Blanched Dandelion Greens with Pumpkin Seed Dressing!  May I have the recipe? Thank you so much, June”
